Material Minds brings materials science for industry into real industrial practice. We support industrial companies and start-ups when material behavior, manufacturing processes, or unexpected failures limit performance, reliability, or scalability.
Our consulting combines materials science, advanced characterization
methods, and manufacturing expertise to identify root causes and develop
practical solutions that can be implemented from lab to production.
For over 20 years, we — both PhD materials scientists with academic roots at RWTH Aachen University and Saarland University — have worked as experts and developers across a wide range of industries. We have successfully developed and implemented innovative materials and technologies, particularly within the metalworking and manufacturing sectors.
Our experience spans from fundamental materials research to industrial development, always with a clear focus on applicability, reliability, and long-term performance.
Our scientific background, recognized through distinctions such as the Springorum Memorial Medal and the Borchers Medal, shapes a structured and data-driven approach that translates materials science for industry into practical manufacturing solutions.
When an idea becomes a product, material selection is a critical factor for functionality, design, sustainability, and profitability.
Our work focuses on the research and development of customized material solutions, process optimization, and the integration of new technologies into serial production. By combining scientific depth with a strong understanding of manufacturing constraints, we help ensure that material decisions lead to stable, scalable, and economically viable products.
In addition to our deep technical expertise, we support companies in integrating sustainability aspects directly into product and process development.
Through tailored training sessions and workshops, we work closely with teams in R&D, design, and quality management to strengthen internal competencies. Our goal is not only to solve immediate challenges, but to enable organizations to make confident, informed material and process decisions over the long term.

Turning innovation into robust production
Last week, I had the privilege of delivering an invited keynote at the EALA 2026, hosted by the Automotive Circle. With this contribution, I had the honor of opening the technical program of the event.
Participating as a materials science expert in an audience largely composed of highly specialized industrial laser technologists—many of whom have been closely connected within this field for decades—made the exchange particularly valuable. The discussions were marked by a high level of technical depth, openness, and precision.
This type of interdisciplinary dialogue clearly demonstrates how much innovation potential emerges at the interfaces between materials engineering, process understanding, and laser technology.
I was equally impressed by the structure and quality of the EALA event format itself: a clear agenda, interactive live polls, and—most importantly—ample space for in-depth technical discussions and meaningful, sustainable networking.
My sincere thanks go to Dr. Dirk Meine for the invitation and the excellent organization, as well as to Dr. Jan-Philipp Weberpals (Audi) for the professional and engaging moderation of the session and to Vincenz Network for hosting a highly professional and well-curated event environment.
For me, this event once again reinforces a key conviction:
Future-ready industrial solutions are created where materials expertise and laser technology are not treated as separate disciplines, but are developed together.
I look forward to continuing the technical exchange and to the impulses that will undoubtedly grow from these conversations.
